You seem to have gotten confused by Oracle's naming convention and downloaded the incorrect version. When bit OS came into existence, Oracle had releases for SPARC, x86, and x Now that there are no bit Intel machines left in the wild at least, none to speak of Oracle has eliminated the "x64" name and just calls it "x86" - which has always referred to Intel architecture.
It just happens to be bit. VirtualBox uses an entirely different set of emulated hardware, so it's not too surprising there are issues. Have you tried installing from the ISO?
